Making it more difficult to acquire spray paint will help reduce the amount of graffiti in our neighborhood. One way to do this is to require spray paint be kept locked up and out of reach of shoplifters. Portland OR has had this requirement in place since 2007. We should ask Seattle's city council to act and create similar requirements here.

How about:

a Silent Auction - get donations from local businesses/artists? I helped a friend organize this for the Junior Debate Foundation.

an event - Battle of The Bands, Arts/Crafts Fair, etc- where vendor/bands pay a fee to set up shop.

For CHCC t-shirts - would be cool if we could get local artists to do "limited edition" CHCC tees.

Business memberships to CHCC (I guess this would be like advertising) - local businesses pay for a membership in exchange for advertisements of their business either on the site or during an event, depending on the program they pay into.

Suggestions for out of the ordinary ways to raise money? Maybe most efficient would be to simply add a donation button to the front of this site.

Some ideas

donation button on this site

add advertisements to the site

Charlette's neighborhood map idea

Capitol Hill CC t-shirts

donation drives for specific projects

I like this one that the folks from hillku made for my blog:
Capitol Hill Neighborhoods Map

It's a bit too subversive but a fun place to start.

Charlette, this sounds like a good idea. Do you know any graphic designers who could help develop this?

I think an overall map of Capitol Hill that reflects the boundaries, historical spots, restaurants, art centers, schools and organizations would be a wonderful way not only for the CHCC to reference during meetings but to develop Capitol Hill's community identity and pride and help the community recognize its diversity.
This might even prove to be an item for fund-raising.

Seattle used to have this cute hand-drawn water-color map of the city but now visitors mainly see the "Seattle tourmap 2008" which unfortunately shows Capitol Hill as virtually vacant with the exception of Online Coffee co. I'm guessing because it costs a business around $1,200 a year to be posted in the map is why most Captol Hill businesses, restaurants, shops and organizations are not listed. This new map I hope will put Capitol Hill "on the map".
