Capitol Hill Community Council - What should we be working on?

The following items were offered by community members and passers by at the June 1st Broadway Farmer's Market. This is a great start. What other ideas do you have? Help the Council identify priorites, what are your top 2-3 priorities?

*Sound Transit construction
*lock up spray paint
*walkable sidewalks (debris, vegetation, broken concrete)
*surveillance cameras @ Cal Anderson (someone wrote in "Ditto")
*playground in Tashkent Park
*keeping arts & artists on Hill
*lower parking requirements
*public safety
*homelessness
*connections to other neighborhoods & development
*litter
*affordable housing
*an appropriate venue for graffiti art/street art
*expand market (farmer's, I presume)
*put an end to Pike/Pine being a haven for beggars
*neighborhood block parties
*support small & affordable retail spaces
*involvement and coordination with neighborhood businesses

a way for people to keep talking about (working through) these and many other issues, connecting them to others also interested and then ways to act on them so that we feel we have accomplished something and are encouraged to keep it all rolling…
we've had these issues floating around for years, the question is how to organize and act on them all?
somehow we need to get innovative here or continue to lose ourselves in more talk…

This is a point.
A closely related point: How do you organize people to get things done?
As far as issues that need community attention and action, the list in the first post
is a good starting point.
But this is a volunteer organization.
It is unlikely that we can operate at the same level that a business or a government would.
It will inevitably be less formal than that.
So it seems to me a more important question is:
"What are you interested in, and what are you willing to do?"
And the answers you get should give you some idea of what a
group of this nature could accomplish.
Of course, it's okay to think big. But unless a group is also willing to do big,
they may not get the result they hope for.
I see a group of this kind mostly as a communication facilitator.
But it's really up to the people who are currently involved and the people they can get to help.

This topic needs more posts.
But I'll take a stab at stating my own area of interest and desired level of participation:
I'm interested in putting data into forms that make it useful to people.
And I'm interested in finding data that a group should know that is being hidden from them
and bringing it to light so that they can inspect it, evaluate it, and use it if they want to.
I would like to participate by contributing to the "literature" of this web site,
and by showing others what I have found and seeing what they have found.

Would be interesting to see what you have found. Are you referring to datamining that might be useful to a real estate agent?

As public safety was listed in the beginning list, and with the Dec. snowstorm disaster, the council at the last meeting had the Seattle Emergency Management present on how a community can connect with existing resources. There are plans for a "Capitol Hill Emergency Web" to be developed on a neighborhood and district level and I believe this may be a good overall structure in connecting with the community.
