What committees should the council support? How many can support effectively? Which one or two committees are you interested in being part of?

The goal of CHCC committees is to create small, enabled groups to tackle specific issue areas on behalf of the council. We should strive for a robust and diverse set of committees but also make sure we are not stretched too thin. Here are some of the committees we think will be effective:

  • Arts
  • Events
  • Development
  • Safety
  • Fundraising
  • Bylaws

What else should we consider? What committees would you like to be part of?

Outreach - ie: setting up Farmer's Market meet & greets, getting the word out about meetings, etc. Maybe this could be combined with the Events category.

I thought there was going to be a subcommittee formed to work on the by-laws. If so, I would like to be on that committee.

Inspired by current thread with Phil and Saunatina re: web site, I'm fairly certain I'll ask a 'Technology' cmte to be formed. We need to get our online strategy set ASAP.

well if we want engagement and participation on the hill our job is to find as many ways as possible to encourage people to start whatever committee they want and as many as they can think of…
if people come, if they can write up their ideas, propositions and proposals, if they can show some sort of organization, the more the merrier, we should feel blessed to have so much input and energy in the council,
if ever some point of overflow seems close, we just reconfigure…there be plenty of us to go around to take of it…
i'm interested in an arts, culture and community media committee, a public space/community center committee, a street market (farmers/crafts/community bazaar) committee, a city communication and planning committee, more dancing in the streets committee…i'll think of more

agreed in principle — i doubt it will ever come to us 'rejecting' a cmte :)

"Arts" seems a bit limiting in terms of scope. I would propose such a committee cover, in addition to arts, culture and historical/heritage as well.

Has any sort of process been developed for serving on these committees, or at this point would that be a bit of the cart before the horse?

An "Arts and Events" committee is starting to form. I agree a Capitol Hill Historical / Heritage Committee should be proposed.
To date we have talked about designating a lead in each committee and committee structure will be finalized with the bylaws. Until then,
I am recommending a review of the King County Bar Association's Guidelines for non-profits not only for the developing bylaws but for committee members.
